Fire Alarm Systems

Modern integrated smoke, fire, and CO detection systems

The installation of a modern Fire Alarm System not only helps prevent loss of life, but also safeguards commercial users from complete loss of a business.

We can help you plan your implementation of a fire, smoke, and gas detection system based on the size, layout, usage patterns, and hazard risk types of your business. Designing a system will take into account electrical and access systems, vehicular and pedestrian usage, CCTV and intruder alarm integration, and the nature of the response required.

Responses can be staggered in time, for example, to allow investigation on-site, or by CCTV remote viewing. Each zone (warehouse, building, floor) can be individually programmed, and indeed each sensor or detector can be addressed to isolate the exact trigger, without having to walk an entire warehouse, for example, to find which sensor has been activated. Responses can be automatically graded to allow time for investigation (smokers congregating under a smoke detector, or fault condition), to immediate evacuation (several different types of sensor in a zone activated) and Fire Brigade attendance requested via communications link to the Alarm Receiving Centre (monitoring station).

Each design is bespoke, and the detection equipment can include state-of-the-art devices such as the VESDA-E VEP aspirating smoke detectors which use constant active air monitoring for very early warning and reduced nuisance smoke detection. For example, in a large church, with huge interior volume and high ceilings, the system is continually drawing in air via a system of pipes throughout the premises (not waiting for smoke to waft across a detector) and analysing it using very high tech sensors – it can tell the difference between smoke, dust, and incense, for example. We were recently commissioned to install such a system to protect the Church Of The Immaculate Conception in Newtownbutler. This system is specifically designed to be a very early stage fire warning system appropriate for listed and historical buildings which may have very large internal spaces, be very combustible, and architecturally and socially highly significant and irreplaceable. The systems are unobtrusive and do not detract from the beauty of the interior (the pipes are essentially hidden). On the other hand, during a loud organ recital (for example) alarm sounders may be unheard, and we can assist with the sympathetic placement of visual alerts that in an inactive state do not ruin the aesthetics of the building, but when activated provide a clearly visible signal.

Together with thermal imaging fire-origin identification, these technologies are the state-of-the-art in very early fire warning and greatly reduce the risk of property damage and personal injury, as well as reducing the nuisance of false alarms. The fire brigade will have critical extra time to respond and the evacuation can be calm and orderly, likely before any signs of trouble are even apparent to people on the premises.

G P Electrical and security has developed a reputation of providing high quality Fire Alarm service and installation. All staff are well trained, with appropriate health and safety qualifications. Certified by the NICEIC, all installations are designed and installed to comply with the current BS 5839 regulations. We provide the following:

  • Domestic, Commercial, Industrial Fire Alarm Installations
  • Heritage and Historical buildings very early warning Fire Alarm Systems
  • Periodic Testing and Inspection
  • 24 hour Fire Alarm Monitoring with Brigade response
  • Comprehensive maintenance of Fire Alarm Installations, with 3 monthly, 6 monthly and yearly checks as required
  • Option to fully integrate with intruder alarm and surveillance system, with dual 4G radio communicator notification to Monitoring Station or keyholders as desired

Very early warning using thermal imaging cameras

Specialty thermal imaging cameras can continually survey an area, and send an alert with live images when a temperature or smoke anomaly is detected. Whilst thermal imaging cameras do not (yet) capture high definition images, they are extremely sensitive to differences in heat in the area they look at, and can within seconds detect a fire origin point that may not be obvious in a visible-light video feed, or be detectable yet in the air.

These cameras are also equipped with visible-light lenses, so the user can see both thermal image and the normal image in a smartphone or other monitoring device. We can advise whether your fire protection plan might benefit from thermal imaging, and design a system that integrates with an air-sampling-type system, and your intruder alarm and/or access control system as required, ensuring smooth evacuation and Fire Brigade access.
